Summary

And even though I promised to let her go, I realize that I can't. She's mine now, and I'm keeping her.

To say I had a rough start in life would be the understatement of the century.

My uncle may have rescued me from my abusive childhood, but he couldn't save me from the neurotic and compulsive obsessions I would develop in my adulthood.

I deal with some of the worst criminals in the seedy underbelly of the world just to get what I want. What I need.

And what I need is the perfect woman. Perfect and pure in every way possible. And I'm willing to obtain that perfection...no matter the cost.

So when I make my newest purchase, I expect Adeline's fate to be like all the others before her—taking what I want and then never seeing her again.

But she's different.

Her beauty is disarming.

And even though I promised to let her go after I took what I wanted...I slowly come to the realization that I can't.

I have to break my promise to her, because she's mine now.

And I'm keeping her.

This was my first Angela Snyder book, and I was taken aback by how much I enjoyed her storytelling and characters. Keeping Her is a brilliantly written arranged marriage/captor romance and a fantastic start to the Keep Me Series. I was thoroughly captivated by Adeline and Lucien. Their journey is filled with drama, complex emotions, passion, desire, unpredictability, and surprising twists. Lucien is a complicated man, steered by a traumatic past, lacking trust in people, particularly women. When dealing with a woman, he has limitations, arrangements, and a rigid set of rules. Adeline cracks his flawlessly constructed walls, pushing his boundaries, and making him feel emotions he isn't ready for and doesn't know how to handle. Despite the circumstances, the chemistry and connection between them is something neither can deny. I really enjoyed how the relationship and trust between Adeline and Lucien grew; it felt genuine. The book ended in a cliffhanger; however, the story left an impression, and I'm looking forward to listening to the second instalment, Saving Him.

Stephen Borne and Auri Alden did an incredible job with the narration. They captured and portrayed the complex personalities, emotions, and the connection between Adeline and Lucien. Overall, Keeping Her was a wonderfully written story with excellent narration, one I'll highly recommend.

Adeline’s father is a powerful man in the mafia and believes that her only value to him is the marriage he has arranged for her. When she is first abducted all she wants is to return home the same way she arrived but not only has time and distance given her clarity on her life she has begun to develop feelings for her captor even if he doesn’t always treat her well.

Lucien’s devastating past has a large impact on his life. The only person he has allowed close is his cousin and when it comes to women he has a strict protocol that he never waivers from. The only problem is that Adeline is the first women to make him feel which he doesn’t know how to handle and he is beginning to realize that one encounter with her was not enough.

The characters draw you in as you feel for the position that Adeline is in while Lucien has some facets to his personality that leave us wanting to know more about what transpired to shape him into the man he has become and the cliffhanger leaves us wondering what the future holds. The narrator managed to convey the unease that both characters felt with not only themselves but each other as well. 🎧 Audiobook Obsession🎧

Adeline’s life has never been in her control. She is the sheltered daughter of a mafia don, destined for an arranged marriage with her father’s right-hand man. What she doesn’t know is her fiancé is a greedy human trafficker, and he sells her virginity with the intent to get her back when his buyer is done with her.

Lucien is a man with a troubled past. Wealthy, he lives a lonely life due to a number of neuroses and issues. When he “buys” Adeline, he doesn’t know who she is. He thinks this is a consensual agreement between him and her, like all the previous virgins before her. His intent is a single night of sex, and a huge payout to the young women in his bed.

What they discover is that while both damaged in their own ways, Adeline and Lucien are good for each other and they are stronger together. I enjoyed this duet.

Intriguing, dark romance.
