Summary

When Charlotte Haze’s nurse, Rebecca Grainger, is found murdered at a disused burial ground and her young charge is nowhere to be found, Daniel and Jason must race against the clock to solve the crime in order to save the little girl.

Will their personal connection to the victim and their desperation to save Charlotte cloud their judgment and prevent them from solving the most important case of their partnership?

Whilst I understand the reviews from other listeners regarding the change in narrator. Yes, there is a change in voices and accents. But It doesn’t take away the brilliance of the story. I accept I was disheartened to learn the narrator had changed and it did take some getting used to. However, I did get used to the change and thoroughly enjoyed the stories. I listened to this one within 24 hours and was as engrossed as ever.

Brilliant!! I have so far listened to all the Redmond and Haze stories in about a month. I will be sad when I’ve finished them.

I was really starting to dislike Daniel - actually to the point I was starting to become disinterested in his character, but this installment was a massive relief for me. I shan't provide spoilers, but I was very pleased.

I do understand that some people find the change of narrator jarring, but after a couple of hours I got used to it and the performance was great.

such a relief

Obvious end about half way in. Easy listening but not very complex. Would listen to another is bored.

The narrator much better than the last one

I totally agree with another reader who wrote that in the previous books Daniel was becoming really annoying, and actually I feel sorry as it seems that fate is really against him.

Life is not easy for the inspector, and he has it particularly bad in this book, but the plot is really interesting, and I like that characters from previous books (both good and bad people) are featured again.

The epilogue of this book is particularly interesting and I am looking forward to the next one.

I complained a lot about the voice actress who read the first 10 books, I thought she was awful, and I wasn’t too happy either when they change the narrator to Alex Lee (who read the previous book, as well as this one) as I think that she has a gentle voice more suited to children’s book or perhaps romantic novels.
I still don’t understand why they cannot get a male voice actor to read these books since both protagonist are men; but I have to say that I got used to Alex Lee, and I still prefer her interpretation to the one of the woman who read the first books.

I really enjoy this series, great plot twist in this book
