As Sid, Kiera, and Marge head home from a relaxing beach vacation, they get caught in the outer bands of a hurricane and are forced to seek shelter in an old motel along the Georgia coast. After a downed tree blocks the only motel exit, they find themselves stuck without power, cell service, or gasoline… but with a dead body. With little else to occupy their time, Sid and Kiera set out to investigate the murder but don’t get far before the body mysteriously disappears and, with it, any clues.

Between the brusque motel manager’s unwillingness to help and the other guests’ desperation to get home, getting answers isn’t easy. Undeterred, Sid and Kiera enlist the help of Marge, who is more than happy to help them investigate their fellow lodgers. Is one of the quirky guests actually a cold-blooded killer? Will they be able to find the dead body before the authorities arrive? More importantly, will they be able to ID the killer before there’s another murder?

I enjoyed this book. I enjoy the riddle of locked room mysteries and while this book is not one as such, it still has that air about it, with everybody trapped in the one location, with no way for help to arrive or them to leave. As a result the author has created a great atmosphere and a real whodunit, which I simply loved. It's also the only cozy mystery I can think of where a hurricane and felled free was the reason, it's normally a snow storm. So it was fun to discover other problems mother nature can throw at humans.
I must admit I had no clue who was responsible and missed the clues Sid and Kiera picked up on, it's a good job they were investigating the case and not me. This is book 6 in the series and somehow the author is still managing to keep it fresh and entertaining. They are also standalone stories so can be read in any order but I would recommend giving them ago. I think this is down to the characters, who continue to delight with there sleuthing skills or checkered backgrounds. When a new book comes out, I always stop what I am listening too and jump right into the adventure, although I have never tried one of the recipes included at the end of the book. I can't wait for the next book, specially with the insight of what is in to come in the next.

Sid, Kiera and Marge's trip to the beach hits a road block when a hurricane lands closer to the than predicted. To escape the worse of the weather they hunker down in a motel, especially as one of there vehicles ends up off the road. It seems like other people have the same idea and the motel soon fills up, except one of them won't be alive when morning rolls around. Unable to leave because of fallen trees, the police busy with emergencies, no power or food, Sid, Kiera and Marge start there own investigation. The problem is when a police office finally makes it to them, with the promise that more are on the way when the road is fully cleared, there is no body. What happened to the mystery guest known only as Bruce Wayne? And if he really is dead can Sid, Kiera and Marge find the killer?
I liked the narrator. He helps the story jump off the pages and turns into something more than just a story.

Nothing is ever straightforward for the girls. You would think that staying safe in a motel during a hurricane would keep them out of danger and murder. This is a great story with quirky characters, and are satisfying conclusion.

A simply delightful new mystery for Kiera, Sid, and Marge. The story has an excellent set-up, with lots of twists and delicious humour, and had me guessing and second-guessing right up until the end. The book is skillfully performed by Jeff Moon.
