Just when I thought you couldn’t get better than the third volume, this one came along to blow me away. We get another funny scene of Rudy being captured again, and more worldbuilding revolving around more types of magic and the state of other kingdoms and royalty. Pax Shirone is an evil and scary mirror to what Rudeus was like in his past life, and this whole arc was a major wake-up call to our lead. Realising there is much more magic in this world he doesn’t understand, learning about cursed children, and meeting the lovable crazy psychopath that is Zanoba. Zanoba was a hilarious addition to the cast, and so was Aisha, our protagonists’ talented and smart sister. Their goodbye at the end was amazing and had me looking forward to when he could be together with his family again. The worldbuilding was great too, to the point that it even explained the nature of the Red Dragons, and I thought it was a nice touch that a lot of them were unable to fly and could only glide. The confrontation and huge twist with Orsted was shocking and a reality check for the reader, showing the power scaling difference between our hero and the strongest in this world. But for me, the highlight was Eris and her love for Rudeus in this chapter, realising just how much she cared as she saw him basically die before her eyes. As well as the reveal that there is another person from Japan in this world. And the tragic news that when they finally finished their journey, nearly nobody was left there to greet them, as most of Eris’s family had been killed or executed. Reading things from her perspective was powerful and says a lot about the bond and love she has with our protagonist. A great volume.

Rudy is meant to have saint tier magic not king tier.

huge mistake in story. yes may be a mistake by 7 seas who publish the books but a simple proof read would have solved that. even going back to volume 1 which was covered you can tell and fix the mistake in the audio book. Heavily disappointing.

miss did ranking of rudeus
