About this listen

How to get revenge on your ex-husband:

Step one: buy his family’s lumber company.

Step two: demote him and force him to work for you.

Step three: sit back and enjoy the sweet victory.

Not part of my genius plan? Sleeping with the enemy.

Gus Hebert is no ordinary ex-husband. This grumpy lumberjack is hiding a big, squishy heart beneath those broad, flannel-clad shoulders. And he delights in pushing my buttons, challenging me, and flirting nonstop.

Our mutual dislike grows as we’re forced to work together. Until one night, after a little too much wine, the fighting turns into foreplay.

The situation only gets more complicated when I discover that I’m having my ex-husband’s baby.

I fell for his broken promises once before and vowed never to trust him again. But as things heat up at work and at home, and past mistakes threaten our future, we find that, together, we make a pretty good team.

Soon, I’m rediscovering long-forgotten dreams. And I can’t give into these growing feelings and fall for him again. Because now I have two hearts to protect.

Author’s Note: Pain in the Axe is a standalone small-town romance featuring a grumpy boss heroine and a grumpy lumberjack hero who just happen to be divorced exes. If you enjoy enemies-to-lovers banter, nicknames, wood-chopping competitions, and growly, possessive heroes, you will not be disappointed. Don’t worry, Clive will appear as well—his main character-energy cannot be suppressed.

Second chance romance with heaps of pining, a little revenge and perfect chemistry. I loved these two characters so much. Chloe and Gus divorced 20 years ago but clearly neither of them got over it. 20 years of pining is bound to blow up in their face. Gus’ relentless drive to win her back was endearing and I am a sucker for a nickname. He calls her ‘dragonfly’ and you can’t help but swoon a little when he explains why. The banter was fabulous, the lumberjack imagery - delightful and add a bit of suspense to keep you on your toes. What more can you ask for? Maybe some surprise moose appearances for a wee bit of levity. Sounds like a recipe for success.

CJ Bloom & Aaron Shedlock were a great choice for narration. Their chemistry was spot on and they really nailed the banter. You clearly got the thinly veiled disdain from Chloe and the undeterred persistence of Gus. They are so much fun to listen to.

I loved these two characters so much.

Gus and Chloe are wonderful! I'm not usually one for Second chance romance but I love these Heberts. A story of revenge turned justice for a past romance lost. Not only was this a great story with fulfilling revelations, the narration was great and made the experience smooth and engaging. I love that even though it came unexpectedly later in life, these two finally found their HEA together.

Take me to Maine. Moose and all, I love to hear about these lumberjacks. I was looking forward to Gus's story after meeting him in the first book, and Daphne Elliott does not disappoint! Chloe has been working hard since her divorce. And now it's time to seek her revenge. Buying her ex-husband Gus's lumber company should be the best feeling, but it's not giving her all she was looking for. Now working with him daily, dealing with him getting her coffee in the morning and his great attitude and good looks is driving her crazy. Gus thought this was going to be the end of him. But seeing Chloe just enforces his feeling of knowing she was the one and he isn't letting her get away again! With a touch of suspense, a man with a heart of gold and a woman who knows it, this book has it all. It's funny, it's sweet, it's spicy and I can't forget the fun of the family. I am loving this series and can't wait for the next one!

CJ Bloom and Aaron Shedlock bring this gem to life. Bloom is Chloe, tough businesswoman who is a hot mess in private. I loved her take on Chloe as she lets her brains show but not afraid to let her crazy out. Shedlock is Gus, the man with the teddy bear heart. He creates a man who takes on his role as the oldest seriously, but also knows when it's time to put his own happiness first. I loved the way these two find the essence of these two and made a phenomenal listen.

This enemies to lovers, divorced ex's, second chance surprise pregnancy, small town romance was so much fun. I absolutely loved Chloe and Gus! The chemistry between these two was insane and I loved the tension especially when it resulted in a surprise pregnancy. Chloe's character was really well written, but she started to get on my nerves as the book proceeded. Gus' grumpy, alpha, lumbersnack personality was everything.

Aaron Shedlock and CJ Bloom's narration was *chef's kiss* in this audiobook. These two can do no wrong and they made this audiobook experience even better.
