About this listen

Don't Miss the Original Series Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan Starring John Krasinski!

Tom Clancy reveals Jack Ryan’s origins in this electrifying #1 New York Times bestselling thriller that pits the former Marine turned family man against a vicious group of international terrorists.

As an American in London on vacation with his family, Jack Ryan never imagined his quick thinking would prevent an assassination attempt on Britain’s royal family and earn him the gratitude of an entire nation—and the scorn of an ultra-left-wing faction of the IRA. Irish terrorist Sean Miller and his followers in the Ulster Liberation Army intend to make sure Ryan pays for his interference in blood. But he’s not the only one they’re after...

With the lives of his pregnant wife and young daughter in mortal danger, Ryan accepts a role as a CIA analyst in order to find Miller and shut down the ULA. Going head to head with a ruthless terrorist is a fool’s errand, but Jack Ryan is the kind of man who will do whatever it takes to protect his family.

Although the narrator takes a little getting used to, and as others say his accents are horrendous. The story however is great. Starts quickly and so many twists, even though i had seen the film years ago, there was so much more in this. I listen to it in the car and dont want to arrive anywhere as it means i will have to stop listening.

Great book

This is story telling at its best. Full of detail and exciting to listen too. The narrator occasionally mixed his accents but excepting this he was very good and added to the listening experience. I will not give any details away about the plot but will say that I highly recommend this book. A must listen too!!!

Another outstanding Tom Clancy book

I read the other reviews with interest and had to agree that this is not Scott Brick's best piece of work. His attempt at English and Irish accents are a little cringing. Get past that and the storyline does take a while to get going. HOWEVER, there is a part in the middle of the story that almost had me in tears! I don't want to give the story away, but let's just say that as a husband and father it really got to me. This is a story where you can really empathise with the characters.
I decided to start with this book as the first Jack Ryan book and follow up with the second "Red Rabbit". One slight problem, Audible don't have it on their list - Grrrr!

Emotional Rollercoaster

So long as you can get past most of the UK characters speaking with Dick Van Dyke accents it is a fine story.
Odd however that the publisher (or at least the person who wrote audible's "publisher's notes") doesn't appear to have read or heard the story (maybe they saw the film?) The Duke and Duchess of Kent definitely do not feature in this book.

Great story- just ignore the accents

This is my least favourite Tom Clancy book but that's no excuse for the diabolical narration. The attempts at English and Irish accents are just terrible, the English sound straight out of Mary Poppins, never met a copper speak like that. The Irish accents just hurt my ears, I stopped listening to it after part 1 I just couldn't take it any more

Diabolical
