Summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole enraptures again with this seductive tale of a fierce werewolf prince who will stop at nothing to protect the lovely archer he covets from afar.

A dangerous beauty...

Lucia the Huntress: as mysterious as she is exquisite, she harbors secrets that threaten to destroy her—and those she loves.

An uncontrollable need…

Garreth MacRieve, Prince of the Lykae: the brutal Highland warrior who burns to finally claim this maddeningly sensual creature as his own.

That lead to a pleasure so wicked…

From the shadows, Garreth has long watched over Lucia. Now, the only way to keep the proud huntress safe from harm is to convince her to accept him as her guardian. To do this, Garreth will ruthlessly exploit Lucia's greatest weakness—her wanton desire for him.

Would you consider the audio edition of Pleasure of a Dark Prince to be better than the print version?

I can walk my dogs or clean/iron while listening. Can not do that with book. With such great narrator I admit to laziness, but in case of Kresley Cole, I do get books as well since many have not been availible as audio at time the book came out. So, I have this series fully pre-read so to speak.

What other book might you compare Pleasure of a Dark Prince to, and why?

Cole is the only author in this gendre I read/listen. I tried some other authors, but none has worked for me. It is nice that there are not only vampires out there.

What about Robert Petkoff’s performance did you like?

EVERYTHING! I LOVE THE MAN!

Any additional comments?

Not my absolute favourite by KC, but still will re-listen again some time soon. Great book. Excellent narrator and good action.

Love the series

This book gives us Garreth and Lucia, the Lykae Prince and the huntress. I knew I was going to love this and I was right. There was more to the story than the previous books and I was so hooked I listened to it all in one day. Gareth is a dream, more so than Sebastian even, and the narration for him was just sublime. Robert Petkoff brings the story to life once again with his fabulous narration. He's the best narrator I've heard bar none.

My favourite IAD instalment so far

I have a deep admiration for Kresley Cole, and this particular novel is a standout among my all-time favorites, showcasing her exceptional storytelling abilities.

The narrative centers around our heroine, Lucia the Huntress, a Valkyrie enveloped in intrigue and complexity. Renowned across various realms as the elite archer, her unmatched skill with a bow and arrow has become the stuff of legend. No other archer can rival her prowess, and Lucia is acutely aware of her extraordinary talents. However, her skills are only a glimpse into a much deeper character; the true essence of Lucia is layered with hidden facets of her identity that she keeps concealed from the vast majority of the world. Only a select few have had the privilege of glimpsing her true self, and those who do share an extraordinary bond with her.

Among those few is Reign the Radiant, Lucia’s best friend and half-sister, who is also a Valkyrie. Reign possesses a profound understanding of Lucia’s troubled past, including the dark secrets that burden her heart. Their sisterly bond enriches the story, highlighting the themes of loyalty and empathy. Another pivotal character is Nïx, a gifted soothsayer known for her uncanny and often unsettling foresight. Nïx's unique insights add an intriguing layer of complexity to the unfolding plot, as her prophecies guide and challenge Lucia throughout her journey. I found Lucia to be an incredibly compelling character, entangled in a web of internal conflict and personal turmoil, which makes her one of my favorite Valkyries.

Then there’s Garreth MacRieve.

Garreth is undeniably captivating, exuding a robust, ultra-masculine charm that many would find utterly irresistible. He has this striking presence, with his chiseled physique and confident demeanor that make him the quintessential romantic hero. Yet, Garreth is far more than just a muscular archetype.

What truly sets him apart from many other male protagonists in the series is his exceptional emotional intelligence and deep consideration for those around him. He embodies a rugged masculinity, accompanied by a hint of cockiness, but he balances this bravado with genuine respect for Lucia’s boundaries and desires. This dynamic creates a refreshing complexity in their romantic interactions, as he is not only drawn to her but also values her autonomy.

Garreth showcases a nuanced approach to romance—he is both playful and sincere, teasing Lucia with his charm while also being attuned to her feelings. His ability to be vulnerable, sharing his own insecurities and fears, makes him relatable and adds layers to his character. In a genre often filled with one-dimensional heartthrobs, Garreth stands out as a well-rounded individual, making the journey of his romance with Lucia all the more compelling and satisfying to experience.

Kresley Cole excels at creating rich, multidimensional characters that not only capture the reader's attention but also resonate on a deeper level. Each character, whether they hold a central role or a supporting position, is thoughtfully crafted and developed, which heightens the overall impact of the story. It’s particularly exhilarating when a minor character from one book is elevated to a leading role in another, as this continuity enriches the reading experience and builds anticipation. Cole's ability to create such relatable and intriguing figures is essential in fostering a strong connection with her audience, keeping readers invested in their journeys across the series. I truly cherish Kresley Cole's work, and this novel remains a shining example of her talent and creativity.
