Summary

In this collection of Rumpole stories the comic, courageous, and corpulent 'great defender of muddled and sinful humanity' is joined by a winning cast of villains and victims in tales whose wry humour and sparkling wit deftly send up the legal system. In Rumpole and the Angel of Death our hero achieves resounding triumphs over the forces of prejudice and mean-mindedness. Rumpole and the Way through the Woods involves Rumpole in the world of hunters and the hunted, animal rights and human wrongs. In Rumpole and the Rights of Man, he finds at the European Court of Human Rights that international justice is as fallible as the domestic variety. And for the first time, Hilda, She Who Must Be Obeyed, tells a story all her own.

This latest collection of Rumpole stories does not disappoint. As wide ranging as ever in the happenstances experienced by Rumpole and Hilda (aka "She Who Must Be Obeyed"), the stories are beautifully read by Bill Wallis, who really brings the characters to life. A throughly enjoyable listen. I heartily recommend this book to all who enjoy Rumpole at his best.

Contains some of the best stories about the great man especially the one from 'She who must be obeyed'. As ever the narrator was spot on.

The best Rumpole I've read so far.

I really enjoyed these stories and on the whole they were well narrated. My only issue with the reader was that there were quite a few times when he mumbled and what he said was inaudible (forgive the pun!). The mumbling usually occurred when the character made an aside or thought to himself. These moments were quite important to the storyline but they were read in such a low mumbling way as to make them difficult to hear. This was not helped as I usually listen to Audible when going for a walk so the listening conditions are not optimum. However, when the reader spoke naturally, I could hear every word.

I adore Rumpole and Mr Wallis is supreme in his reenactment. Thoroughly recommend. Just off to see if my next credit is here to buy the next in the series. It's 3.42 on the morning of the 6th February and the 6th is my credit day...... but nothing yet from The Amazon...
oh well, they have my direct debit....

Enjoying the series which Audible has selected
for Rumpole together with a brilliant narrator and reader

But would have hoped that the length of time for each book would have been longer or just maintained during the series

Well done to Sir John Mortimer and to Audible for a great series

Thank you
