About this listen

Sometimes the best detectives…
Have fur.

Evelyn Foster has just moved to Granite, Michigan, and at first, the town is just as she expected it to be. Small. Insular. Quiet. On the upside, she gets to spend every day working with her best friend, one of the customers at the local coffee shop was definitely flirting with her, and her two German Shepherds seem to enjoy their new rental house and its fenced back yard.

Boring isn’t bad, and life could be worse.

When her younger dog, Atlas, alerts on a patch of dirt while they’re out for a walk, Evelyn’s heart rate accelerates, but she tries to keep things in perspective. The pup’s job is to locate human remains, but he’s still in training, and Eve is certain he must have made a mistake, but she contacts the police just to be on the safe side.

When a man, whom everyone thought had run out on his wife, is unearthed, the sleepy town suddenly wakes up and Eve finds herself reluctantly swept into a murder investigation.

Will she be able to unravel the mystery and become the talk of the town? Find out in this dynamic new Canine Cozy Mystery!

How much fun is the start of this series? This cozy mystery pushed all the right buttons for me. Evelyn has moved into town and has two dogs in the search and rescue program. Her older one searches for live rescues, and her puppy, Atlas is being trained to search for cadavers. While out training Atlas, he finds himself sniffing in a direction where he finds just that. Not really ready for such a discovery, Eve reports it, but now everyone she sees seems to be a suspect. Where does it all go? I loved this as she meets a new attractive man at the coffee shop, and she slowly begins to meld into the small town she has settled into. Plus I just love the dogs! This is a fantastic start to the series and I can't wait to continue!

Julie McKay brings all the characters alive in this novella. Building suspense, allowing relationships to begin and grow and finally begin to rule out people, she finds the voices that easily let me feel like I was on the search, and was digging through people to find the guilty one. She is amazing and I loved her performance.

Fantastic start to the series!
