About this listen

The most chilling read of the Christmas season.

As the snow begins to fall, the body count begins to climb…

DI James Walker is ready for a quiet family Christmas in the sleepy village of Kirkby Abbey.

But when he opens an early Christmas present left on his doorstep, he soon realises it is no gift. Inside is a gruesome surprise, and a promise – twelve days, twelve murders. Not long after, the first body is found, half frozen in the snow.

As the blizzards descend, panic spreads through the remote Cumbrian village – there’s a killer amongst them, and with eleven more victims to go, anyone could be next….

Can James stop the killer before they strike again?

The first in a new series, Alex Pine has written a dark, atmospheric crime novel, set in a snowed-in Cumbrian village, for fans of Val McDermid, Ross Greenwood and LJ Ross.

ok the setting was great, but Annie who is a seasoned detectives wife is a histrionic.. also I'd worked out who the killer was after the 3rd chapter.. when the detective was so slow on the uptake even after seeing written proof I was rolling my eyes and laughing.

quaint mystery

Really flat, monotone narration which really didn’t help the story be anything very special. Unrealistic and a bit run of the mill for a murder mystery.

A bit dull all round

So I actually got this mixed up with "The Killer's Christmas List" by Alex Stone, and read books 2 and 3 before realising I hadn't actually read book 1. I part read and part listened but honestly the narration on this one is awful, books 2 and 3 are much better! and the narrator pronounces the town correctly so that's a bonus. Overall, not my favourite and it was incredibly obvious from the off who the murderer was but I can now carry on with book 4 knowing I've read the correct starter! They definitely get better 🙂

poor narration but alright story

Great story but the narrator is a bit bland. Difficult to distinguish characters at times.

Excellent author

Sorry. The story was good, but there was a terrible overuse of “hun”. Some might it see it as a term of endearment, but far better to use someone name now and again! I felt that the narrator sounded too young.

Poor narration.
