About this listen

The “First Blade of Ostia” is an accolade few will achieve. In Ostenheim, a city obsessed with duelling, it is one that nobody forgets.

Bryn’s earliest memory is of watching duels in the arena. His earliest dream is of taking his place there.

Amero dal Moreno has no dreams. His life has been about fulfilling the expectations of others. In search of a path of his own, the dreams of others are too tempting to resist.

After years of sacrifice and hard work, Bryn Pendollo is finally a professional duellist. Becoming the First Blade of Ostia no longer seems the childish fantasy it once did. To find the man standing in his way is also his best friend will test him in ways he would never have believed.

The First Blade of Ostia is a standalone swashbuckling fantasy adventure novel set in the Middle Sea World of the Society of the Sword Trilogy.

…from a great series. I enjoy all of these books, by this author. Well worth getting into.

Another great story…

Hamilton creates incredible characters, storylines and depth but I am seemingly always left feeling let down by the endings and what feels to be incredibly rushed conclusions, having just finished The Wolf of the North series and left feeling the same way.

The first 80% is almost perfect

you'd expect Amero (or however it's spelt) to be the main character. The fact that he wasn't was a refreshing take. The characters were well developed and the story flowed nicely.

Very Good Prequel

Couldn’t put it down!
A brilliant prequel to the series and was devastated to come to the end.
Great characters in a frustratingly good story; I just wish there was more to listen too!
Amazing narration too which perfectly suits the book with great character voices and intense pacing and atmosphere!
Absolutely loved it!!
