About this listen
After the turbulent and heart breaking events of Lilly and Gabriel's almost wedding, nothing will ever be the same.
The world has been thrown into violent chaos. Hunters have declared all out war on those with magic in their blood and everyone has been caught in the crossfire.
But Hunters, it would seem, are far from the world's biggest threat.
A dark evil has been unleashed. One driven by wrath and an insatiable hunger for vengeance.
And the fate of the world and all those in it rest in a single pair of hands.
The final spell has begun.
The end draws near.
And Lilly Hooper's fate has been sealed.
Volume three brings the gripping, dark and intense Last Witch trilogy to its climax.
Get ready. This is no fairy tale.

By the time you reach Volume Three, the story is fully in motion and the emotional intensity continues to build. M. J. Lawrie certainly doesn’t make things easy for the characters. The darker themes remain a strong part of the story, with a very high level of loss, devastation, and both emotional and physical torment.
I’ll be honest — I nearly DNF’d this book around chapter 12 and again around chapter 30. I was really struggling with the amount of loss and devastation happening in the story. It felt relentless at times.
I also felt (and this is only my opinion) that the MFC, Lilly, made some very questionable decisions, or seemed to run into trouble without fully thinking things through. This is something I noticed in previous books as well. I tried to give Lilly some grace because she has been through so much, and I had to keep reminding myself that she is still a young character. However, in this installment I did find myself becoming more frustrated with her choices, as the pattern of running into danger without thinking seemed to happen quite a lot.
That said, the level of emotional and physical torment in this book is right up there with the darkest moments in the series.
What kept me going was the need to find out how everything would unfold. The character building throughout this series is excellent. I genuinely felt like I could picture the characters clearly and understand them — both the good and the bad. That depth of character work is one of M. J. Lawrie’s real strengths.
In the end, Volume Three pushes the story toward its conclusion and sets things up for the final book. Even though parts of it were emotionally difficult to get through, I still wanted to see how the story would ultimately end.
