About this listen

When a Demonic Assault occurs, most people stuck inside of a Fracture end up hiding inside of a bunker in the hopes that they don’t get killed by a demon.

Others might even hope for the slightest possible chance at signing a contract with a spirit and becoming a Guardian.

So when Scarlet was caught in a Fracture, the last thing she expected was to become a demon herself. Exactly two centuries ago, humanity was struck with their very first Demonic Assault. The skies above the capital of the US, shattering as if made of glass; demons of all kinds appearing out of nowhere; and no way to effectively stop them before the end of the Assault.

On the brink of devastation, some of the humans managed to find themselves offered a contract whilst inside of a Fracture. One bringing a chance at power, fame, and fortune.

Now, long after every nation of the world joined together to form the Terran Republic, Scarlet finds herself stuck trying to find a university from the Republic’s capital that will accept someone from a lower tier city into their midst. But, as if that wasn’t already enough trouble for one person to bear, she somehow ends up stuck in one of the Fractures of a Demonic Assault while visiting her father figure’s company building.

However, she doesn't perish in the darkness and instead awakens her dormant bloodline as a noble demon. A Blood Lycan.

Turns out she had been a demon all along and had been born for the apocalypse.

Loved it, the narrators did a great job and using two balanced it out well.

Well worth the wait, looking forward to the rest of the series.

This story is not everyone’s cup of tea. It’s a classic urban fantasy setup with a female mc that gets to be super strong, and it does have a litrpg-style system. It feels different, however, to the many other similar stories by having a mc that is neither omnipotent or faultless and most importantly: she has people that she cares for and actually develops as a character alongside those people. This does a lot for the story and makes the aloof badass stereotype easier to digest. Looking forward to the continuation of this story.

Fantastic

The book is split into miniscule chapters of 6 minutes. It wouldn't be a problem for webnovels where chapters are releasing on weekly basis, but for a complete novel it's pretty unfortunate. There are even chapters like (part 1 - part 4) that could've been easily united with no effort at all. As it stands about 2% of the book is title read.

The audio itself is pretty jarring. There are constant volume jumps from whisper to yelling. I would say that there are constant 10db jumps, sometimes 20db. Also having second voice acting is aggravating the issue. It's possible to get used to volume jumping if it's just one voice (although it still would've been pretty bad), but when there are constant interruption by second voice it becomes worse. It constantly throws you out of the immersion, reminding you that publisher and author didn't put much thought into it, chasing some unknown trends or simply didn't care about the reader.

The story itself is typical RoyalRoadl, and that's why we love it.

Bad editing and mixing. Good story, though.

Many such stories have a relatively shallow world-building and characters. Not in this case! You can feel the complexity of the main character. The story unfolds slowly, building up the tension. Overall, if you like the genre, this title is a must-read. Can't wait till the following books are published as audiobooks!
