About this listen

For humans and vampires, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always–always–guard your heart.

The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself.

But winning won’t be easy amongst the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses. To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival.

Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father’s crown…and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him.

But there’s no room for compassion in the Kejari. War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home.

In a kingdom where nothing is more deadly than love, Raihn may understand her more than anyone, but their blossoming attraction could be her downfall.

The Serpent and the Wings of Night is the first book in the Crowns of Nyaxia series, a heart-wrenching romance full of dark magic and bloodthirsty intrigue.

I haven’t read much yet, but the narrator annoys me. She is reading way to fast and in an uneven way. So trying to slow it down just makes it sound even more terrible and effed up.

The narrator

My third time listening to refresh before the release of book 4.
Oraya, a human who grew up in the House of Night as the king's adopted daughter, enters the Kejari, a contest with only one survivor who is granted a wish by the goddess Nyaxia. She teams up with Raihn and Mische forming an alliance to fight the other contestants, knowing they may have to turn on each other to win the contest. They each have their own reasons for needing to win.
Great narrator, detailed world building (there is more in subsequent books) slow burn romance and forced proximity. What's not to love!

Vampires, humans a contest and slow burn romance

Great performance by the narrator. Really brought Oraya's character to life. if you're into action and Romantasy, you'll likely enjoy this.

Enjoyable Vampire Romantasy

If you love a slow burn you will very much enjoy this book. The characters are interesting and there's definitely layers to unravel. I do want to know where the story is going so it's definitely intriguing, I just wish the pace was a little quicker.

Enjoyable but a little slow

I started this book after finishing a book that I absolutely loved, and as a result wasn’t expecting much from this one as the next book is never as good. Alas I was wrong as i devoured this book in 2 days, between this audible version & my kindle version. It was an absolute joy to read & I’m already starting the sequel!

A surprise delight!
