About this listen

DI Nikki Galena gets a series of anonymous calls. She is told the place, time, and who will die. But the messages are in a secret language used only by villains. Nikki and her team must decode the riddles and work out where the threats are coming from.

Meanwhile, the fens have been hit by a series of "designer burglaries". It appears that a new gang of thieves are stealing to order. And things get very close to home when a friend of Nikki's mother dies suddenly and, perhaps, suspiciously.

Do any of these events relate, and can Nikki stop the thieves on the fens before anyone else dies?

Full of twists and turns, this is a crime thriller that will keep you in suspense until its heart-stopping conclusion.

I am not sure that she reads her narrative before committing to the audio. She makes the odd basic error of reading a common a word which has more than one connotation wrongly. Her biggest mistake which I am learning to live with is her way of describing the police crime scene investigation officers as So CO’s as if you think about it they are Soc O’s maybe that is the way they are described in the USA. The story lines remain of very high quality but I just wish the author would link them to he other team of detectives and therefore a different narrator.

Still having trouble with the narrator

The narrator sounded half asleep or bored and her character accents either 1950s Eton, without the correct grammar or rough and uneducated. Nicky sounded middle aged, abrasive, unapproachable and bitter. The accent was difficult to listen to and did not match the character type alluded to by other characters. Joseph sounded as though he were a ballet dancer rather than a soldier who had gone on special operations. I am amazed that a narrator who has read aloud several police novels pronounces SOCO sew coe and ma’am as marm. Maybe Agatha Christie would be more suitable for her skills which are ideal for a different era…

The plot was intriguing and flowed well.
