Summary

The long-awaited explosive climax to the first arc of the Number One New York Times bestselling Stormlight Archive.

Dalinar Kholin challenged the evil god Odium to a contest of champions with the future of Roshar on the line. The Knights Radiant have only ten days to prepare-and the sudden ascension of the crafty and ruthless Taravangian to take Odium's place has thrown everything into disarray.

Desperate fighting continues simultaneously worldwide-Adolin in Azimir, Sigzil and Venli at the Shattered Plains, and Jasnah at Thaylen City. The former assassin, Szeth, must cleanse his homeland of Shinovar from the dark influence of the Unmade. He is accompanied by Kaladin, who faces a new battle helping Szeth fight his own demons . . . and who must do the same for the insane Herald of the Almighty, Ishar.

At the same time, Shallan, Renarin, and Rlain work to unravel the mystery behind the Unmade Ba-Ado-Mishram and her involvement in the enslavement of the singer race and in the ancient Knights Radiants killing their spren. And Dalinar and Navani seek an edge against Odium's champion that can be found only in the Spiritual Realm, where memory and possibility combine in chaos. The fate of the entire Cosmere hangs in the balance.

At a time when so much in life is a struggle, Sanderson has a rare talent for bringing wonder to the page - and the Wind and Truth stands as a blockbusting testament to a writer who has put the fun back in reading

Speechless. Sando does it again as always and I simply do not know how I will possibly wait for era 2.

There were some parts of the story that really weren’t hitting for me at the start of the book, but by the end it had mainly clicked together nicely with a satisfying conclusion to the first arc of this 10 book series.

Do not start this book expecting a complete ending for all of our characters and for era 2 to be completely new like in Mistborn, as this is not the case here. This is very much the middle book of the series and you should approach reading it with this fact in your mind.

Yes, MANY of our questions are answered, but some go deliberately unanswered or are opened up even more, setting up what is to come in book 6-10.

I definitely feel like another run of editing on this would have been worthwhile, as there are some jarring uses of modern language throughout which do not work with the setting in my opinion and a few that actually made me cringe. However, the book grows in strength throughout and given how well it wraps up this arc, I can forgive the odd blunder here and there. It is 1300+ pages after all.

Michael and Kate, excellent as always.

Now, I’m off for a full Cosmere re-read. Journey before destination, Radiant.

Incredible conclusion to era 1

Good continuation of my favourite series. I unfortunately think the continuous focus on the mental health aspect detracts somewhat.
A certain amount of it can add to a story by providing character depth, a constant focus on it starts to lend the feel of a children's story book designed to teach morals. Whilst moral lessons are not a bad thing in itself, I don't think that is the reason most of the listeners to the cosmere.
The book could have been 30% shorter without so much of it, and much better for it.
Still very much worth reading for those already invested in the Arc.

good book, slightly ruined by too much focus on characters inner turmoil.

the story is as always brilliant, but I must point out that the audio sound quality has dibbed particularly during chapters 68 to 70, where the artists volume dips at the end of each sentencez as if they are moving away from the microphone, or quoting at the end of sentences. it should really be looked at.

audiobook quality has dibbed

As always, I love the comfortable voices of these audiobook readers, relaxing but still enticing, with a story that builds and draws you in. I am just sad there is no accompanying PDF to show off the artwork like Rhythm of War had.

Great ending, but....

Still way ahead of most writers and only a 4 star on the Sanderson scale (5 by any other). Too much re-treading of old paths (yes, we know Shallan is a bit nutty in a handy sort of way). Definitely too much reliance on edge of knife situations (how come the heroes are too stupid to plan properly and have to rely on a deus ex machina in every battle...) - also, it's a bit of a cliché when the hero is practically dead, but has a life flashback and suddenly turns into superman. ALSO, audio only, the little quotes, purposely out of context, at the head of each chapter just get annoying. When reading, you can skip them, then plough back through them when you know what's going on, to see just how smart (and a bit smug) Mr Sanderson is. In the audio - just a distraction. Still, had to be read (listened to) and it's only my stinginess to blame (the whole audiobook for 1 credit is MUCH cheaper than buying a book or ebook). I think I still need to get the Kindle version, anyway, so that I can read it in a way I can enjoy it properly.

A bit of a slog really.
