President Donald Trump said that he is ready to make his 'final determination' on a deal to extend a ceasefire with Iran. The president is the final sign off on a deal reached by negotiators that would extend the fragile ceasefire by 60 days and open the floor for further talks on Iran's nuclear program. Writing on Truth Social, President Trump laid out conditions for a tentative agreement, saying that Iran "must agree that they will never have a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb. The Hormuz Strait must be immediately open, no tolls, for unrestricted shipping traffic, in both directions."

The US and Iran have reached a tentative deal to extend a ceasefire by 60 days and launch further talks on Tehran’s nuclear program, a US source familiar with the matter said, raising hopes the three-month conflict could be nearing a resolution.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private negotiations, confirmed an earlier report from Axios. President Donald Trump has yet to agree to the terms. Both countries have previously hailed progress, with Trump repeatedly indicating the US was close to securing an agreement — only for the stalemate to drag on.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Thursday would only say “the teams have been going back and forth” when pressed if an interim deal has been clinched. He insisted Trump’s three “red lines” — reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Iran turning over highly enriched uranium and ending its nuclear program — remain necessary for any pact.

President Donald Trump asserted that no one nation would control the vital Strait of Hormuz waterway, highlighting a key sticking point in resolving the war with Iran.

Trump was asked during a meeting of his Cabinet officials if he was comfortable with a short-term deal that would open the strait but under Iranian control.

“Nobody’s going to control it. It’s international waters,” Trump said Wednesday at the White House. “The strait’s going to be open to everybody” and the US will “watch over it.”
