In this episode, we’ll discuss the often-quoted statement in Vedanta that the World is Mithya. The Sanskrit word mithya is translated as “unreal,” “false,” or “not real.” Some take the idea a step further and interpret it to mean that the world is an illusion—reasoning that if something is unreal, it must be illusory.

But is the world truly mithya, is it false or an illusion? We experience the world “out there.” We interact with it every day, and the objects within it appear real and tangible. We can see them, touch them, examine them, and investigate them. The world contains countless objects—from tiny atoms to vast galaxies. So how can the world be unreal, or an illusion? Are all these objects unreal? Are all of them illusory? On what basis does Vedanta teach that the world is mithya?

Based on the teaching of Vedanta, we will try and explain what mithya really means.

They have discovered that the universe is much larger than it seems. The age of the universe is 13.7 billion years, but they have discovered a galaxy which is 33 billion light years away. How is this possible?

This episode proposes a fresh perspective for understanding the universe. It suggests that the expansion of space may be related to the stretching of the time fabric, which causes distant galaxies to appear farther away than they actually are. This optical illusion, created by nature, makes the universe seem larger than anticipated.

This episode argues that the multiverse does indeed exist, but not in the form commonly proposed by mainstream scientific theories. Rather than speculative parallel worlds, we present a more precise and coherent interpretation of the multiverse grounded in a proper understanding of concepts behind quantum physics and the core teaching of Vedanta.

Each observer, through the act of observation, brings into existence a unique and exclusive universe. In this sense, no two observers inhabit the same universe. The existence of countless observers therefore implies the existence of countless universes.
