• The Echo Chamber That Actually Helped Us Build Something Real
    Apr 4 2026

Everyone says echo chambers are bad. But they helped us build something remarkable.

When we started helping organisations reduce their environmental impact at Green Element, most of the world thought what we were doing was a bit odd. The answer wasn't to seek out sceptics. It was to find our people: the B Corp network, sustainability-minded founders, people like James Gibb and Darren Chadwick who understood why this work mattered.

That echo chamber normalised what we were doing. It gave us endorsement and validation at a time when the mainstream hadn't caught up yet. Being surrounded by people who get it doesn't just feel good, it actually helps you push further and faster.

There's a lot of noise about the dangers of echo chambers, and I'll cover the bad side in a follow-up video. But if you're pioneering something new in sustainability or net zero, choosing your circle carefully isn't a weakness. It's a strategy.

  • Why the Iran Oil Shock Is Doing What Climate Policy Never Could
    Mar 28 2026

This week in sustainability, one story dominated everything else — and it is not the one you would expect.

The Iran War is turbocharging the clean energy transition at a speed no policy ever managed. BYD showrooms in Manila sold a month's worth of EVs in two weeks. VinFast in Hanoi quadrupled customer visits. In San Francisco, petrol hit $6.81 a gallon and used EV dealers are overwhelmed with appointments. Pakistan is saving $6.3 billion this year by using solar instead of oil.

And one fact that stopped me in my tracks: Southeast Asian countries now have EV adoption rates of around 40% — higher than the UK and Europe.

In this week's top 10 sustainability news countdown, we cover all of that, plus:

    • Why Qatar's largest LNG plant emitted the equivalent of 20,000 cars' annual CO2 in just three weeks
    • How long-duration iron-air batteries are reshaping the data centre energy story
    • Why poor countries will face 10 times more heat deaths than rich ones by 2050
    • What New York's climate law U-turn tells us about building resilient carbon strategies
    • The UK flood insurance scandal that is benefitting the wealthy instead of the vulnerable
    • And three mind-blowing environmental facts you will not hear anywhere else this week

If you work in sustainability, lead a business, or advise organisations on their carbon strategy; this is your weekly briefing.

  • What Happens When You Tell Your Team the Truth About Cash Flow
    Mar 22 2026

We had a record April. The quarter before that was brilliant. And I still sat the whole team down and told them the business was going to have a serious cash flow problem by September.

    That decision changed everything.

In this video I talk about what happened when we chose complete transparency with our team during one of the hardest periods we had ever faced as a business. We didn't have to do it. We chose to. And the way every single person responded made me genuinely proud.

There's something important here for any leader who has been in that position where the numbers are heading the wrong way but you don't want to panic anyone. The instinct is to protect people by keeping them in the dark. I've come to believe that's completely the wrong call.

What you actually need is the kind of culture where honest conversations are normal, not just in a crisis, but every single week. We had spent over a decade building that at Green Element, and when the moment came, it held.

If you're leading a team through uncertainty right now, whether that's financial pressure, a restructure, or something shifting underneath the business, I hope this helps.

  • Iran War Has Triggered the Biggest Oil Crisis in History. What It Means for Net Zero
    Mar 20 2026

This week the IEA used language it has never used before. The Iran War has created the largest oil supply disruption in the history of the global market. Oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz have dropped from 20 million barrels per day to a trickle. And the UK's Climate Change Committee just confirmed that delivering net zero costs less than a single fossil fuel price shock.

In this video I break down the 10 sustainability stories that every business leader and sustainability professional needs to know this week, ranked by what the world is covering most.

    Here's what I cover:

    00:00 Hook

00:30 #10 Flexible plastic packaging and the ocean plastic crisis

01:10 #9 Africa's energy poverty is getting worse, not better

01:50 #8 The UK's first PFAS forever chemicals strategy

02:30 #7 Internal carbon fees: 220+ companies, and F&B near the bottom

03:10 #6 Beer, hops and why F&B supply chains are under direct climate threat

03:50 #5 Biodiversity: $44 trillion of global GDP at risk

04:30 #4 US climate policy rollbacks and what they mean for global business

05:10 #3 UK nuclear reforms and 160M litres of SAF per reactor

05:50 #2 Net zero is cheaper than fossil fuels. The CCC just proved it.

06:30 #1 The Iran War and the largest oil supply disruption in global market history

07:30 Top 3 mind-blowing environmental facts of the week

  • The Hidden Reason Renewable Energy Costs So Much
    Mar 16 2026

Energy prices have been falling for renewables for years, so why are your bills still through the roof? The answer comes down to something called fossil pegging, and once you understand it, the whole energy market starts to make more sense.

In this video I break down why the price of electricity, whether it comes from wind, solar or gas, is still largely set by the cost of gas. It's a structural quirk of how energy markets were designed, and it has massive implications for how we think about the transition to net zero.

If you work in sustainability or advise organisations on energy strategy, this is one of those topics that comes up constantly, and getting your head around it helps you give better advice and challenge some of the greenwash around cheap renewables.

  • 13 Sustainability Stories You Need to Know This Week — The Iran War Changes Everything
    Mar 13 2026

Stay to the end — because this week I've got three facts that will genuinely stop you in your tracks. Number one especially. Trust me, you won't have heard this one before.

Every week I go through the sustainability and climate stories that actually matter to business leaders, and this week one story connects almost everything on the list. The Iran war and the Strait of Hormuz crisis is driving oil above $100 a barrel, cutting off humanitarian aid routes, accelerating food insecurity, and handing fossil fuel sceptics a political moment they will not waste. For anyone building a net zero strategy or managing ESG risk right now, this is not background noise. This is the story.

But it is not the only one. We cover ten stories in total this week, from the UK's Climate Change Committee confirming that reaching net zero costs less than managing a single fossil fuel price crisis, to the EU Emissions Trading System coming under real pressure, to AI-driven chip shortages hitting supply chains in ways that are starting to touch sustainability budgets.

And then we get to the three facts. Tehran's water canals catching fire. More than a billion people experiencing climate-influenced temperatures every single day this winter. And extreme dry years in Iran now ten times more likely than before industrialisation. A nuclear-capable nation is running out of water. That is not on the front page. But it should be.

If you work in sustainability, advise organisations on net zero strategy, or lead a business that is trying to understand what any of this means in practice, this channel is for you. Subscribe if you want to stay ahead of the stories that actually matter.

  • Climate Signals 2026: Net Zero, Carbon Markets and Climate News Are Shifting Fast
    Mar 6 2026

Stay with me to the end, because I’ll share how a single parrot species that can barely fly is suddenly having a baby boom while TV news quietly talks less and less about the climate crisis.

In this weekly climate news breakdown, I walk through the biggest signals sustainability professionals, consultants and business leaders should be paying attention to right now. From political attacks on ESG alliances to tightening reporting standards and growing scrutiny of net zero claims, the landscape around climate strategy and carbon accounting is shifting quickly.

If you work in sustainability, advise companies on climate strategy, or help organisations with decarbonisation, these trends matter. They shape how net zero strategies are built, how carbon markets are used, and how climate claims stand up to regulators and investors.

    In this video I cover:

    • Why climate journalism is rapidly moving from TV into podcasts and video

    • The growing legal risk around net zero claims and greenwash

    • Political pressure on ESG alliances like SBTi and CDP

    • Why companies should build climate strategies that work even if policy changes

    • What public opinion in the UK really thinks about net zero

    • The truth behind the so called greenlash against climate policy

    • The structural problems facing carbon offsets and voluntary carbon markets

    • Why carbon pricing and ETS revenues could actually help industry decarbonise

    • How new reporting rules and SBTi tools are tightening corporate climate targets

    • Why renewables keep growing because of economics, not politics

I also share three surprising environmental facts hidden inside everyday news stories, including the remarkable recovery of the kākāpō, a rare flightless parrot whose population has grown dramatically thanks to conservation efforts.

My goal with these weekly updates is simple. Cut through the noise and help sustainability professionals understand what actually matters for net zero strategy, carbon accounting and real world decarbonisation.
