  • 83 - Mark Shaxted, part 1 - IASI Educator and CSIA Course Conductor
    Mar 23 2026

Welcome to episode 83 of The Ski Instructor Podcast, this month featuring Mark Shaxted who has been ski teaching for over 25 years and is an IASI Educator and CSIA Course Conductor. I had a great chat with Mark, taking about his back story in skiing and we soon went off on a tangent into topics such as how not to become a cynical ski instructor, how a ski turn actually works and snowplough deniers. This is part 1 of the conversation and part 2 will follow next month. I had a great time recording this and I think that comes through in the edit. Happy listening Dave music by www.bensound.com

  • 82 - Billy Clark part 2 - Billski
    Feb 21 2026

Welcome to episode 82 of The Ski Instructor Podcast, this week featuring part 2 of the interview with Billy Clark from Billski. Billski is a ski school that works on the French side of the Portes du Soleil in Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets. I see Bill often on the mountain during the winter but this podcast was recorded in his house in Morzine in the summer. Bill was one of the youngest BASI qualified full cert instructors at the age of 22 and we know a lot of mutual people in and around the area. This connection really comes through in the interview and it's a friendly and laid back one.

In part 2 of the interview, we chat about Billski, how it got started and has evolved and his approach to marketing. We also chat about the evolution of the French side of the Portes du Soleil over the years. You can find Billski here - https://billski.co.uk/about-billski/

  • 78 - Jason Hendy - Impulse Racing and Gloucester Ski Club
    Oct 24 2025

Welcome to episode 78 of the podcast, this week featuring Jason Hendy. I worked with Jason this winter at a race we were running in Les Crosets and we started a really interesting chat about ski boots but we didn't get a chance to finish it and that is what this podcast is. It's very much a follow up to episode 77 with Tom Gellie and we touch on a lot of the same topics about boots and this episode deliberately follows that one as a continuation of that topic. Jason has thought deeply about this topic of boots and getting the right set up for you, then the conversation moves on to coaching on the dry slope in the UK, working with kids on a week to week basis and how to go fast on a dry slope. I loved chatting with Jason and it really comes across in this podcast. • 77 - Tom Gellie, Big Picture Skiing - Skiing in rental boots
    Sep 25 2025

Welcome to episode 77 of The Ski Instructor Podcast this week featuring Tom Gellie of Big Picture Skiing. This podcast was prompted by a recent viral Facebook post that Tom put together based on his recent experience of skiing in rental boots at Ski Dubai. We talk extensively about the reasons why rental boots are like they are, what the purpose of them are and how quickly you need to get out of them in order to progress. As usual with Tom and I, we ended up on a bunch of tangents about different stuff to do with boots and customising them to suit your own body. To find out more about Tom, you can go back and listen to my previous episode where I interviewed Tom extensively, the link to that is here. https://open.spotify.com/episode/0CaBF1sZ3IG1xkC5PpLqqk?si=IWMpLd0JTLa7D-US3MAHFA I hope you are enjoying skiing wherever you are and I'll catch you on the next episode. • 76 - Anna Norlin Berg and Joel Baudin - Swedish Ski Instructors, school directors, examiners and demo team, Skidlärarpodden
    Aug 26 2025

Welcome to episode 76 of the Ski Instructor Podcast, featuring Anna Norlin Berg and Joel Baudin. Anna and Joel are the hosts of the popular Swedish ski instructor podcast 'Skidlärarpodden'. When they aren't doing that, Joel and Anna are working ski instructors.

Joel runs the ski school in Kittelfjäll and is an instructor and course leader within Friluftsfrämjandet (The Swedish Outdoor Organization) for the past eight years. He's involved in instructor education through Friluftsfrämjandet and is a passionate moguls skier. Anna is involved in training leaders and ski instructors in Friluftsfämjandet, and is chairman of the Swedish ski exams. She is an Alpine ski coach in Kungsbergets AK for U14 and U16. She was a member of the Swedish demo team in Pomporovo and Levi.

We had a very wide ranging chat covering the backstory for Anna and Joel, instructor systems in Sweden, the technical models, hockey (again, sorry!), interski and falling off of bicycles. I loved chatting with these two and it's a fun interview. If you'd like to listen to the interview that they did with me, you can find it here: https://skidlararpodden.se/episodes/dave-burrows-on-coaching-community-and-carving-your-own-path-in-the-alps Happy listening Dave
