Returning from the horrors of World War I, James Hall and Charles Nordhoff follow a dream to tour the South Pacific. They later coauthored Mutiny on the Bounty. This is a love story. A travelogue and an adventure rolled into one.

I tredje del af Bounty-trilogien følger vi mytteristernes skæbne på Pitcairn-øen, hvor ni af mytteristerne, anført af Fletcher Christian, slog sig ned i 1790 sammen med seks indfødte mænd og tolv kvinder fra Tahiti. I 1808 blev deres skjulested opdaget og bekendtgjort for verden af kaptajn Mayhew Folger fra det amerikanske sælfangerskib Topaz.

Det er måske den mest enestående sørejse i søfartens historie, som kaptajn William Bligh gennemførte, da han i 1789 efter mytteriet på hans skib H.M.S. You will find this book, although an exciting narrative, has an unpolished feel, because it was published in June of 1918, while Mr. Hall was a captive in a German POW camp. When he was captured behind enemy lines, the book was still a work in progress.

Mytteri på Bounty er baseret på den historiske hændelse i 1789, hvor en del af besætningen på det engelske skib H.M.S. Bounty med understyrmand Christian Fletcher i spidsen begik mytteri mod deres kaptajn William Bligh. I romanen af Nordhoff & Hall følger vi den fiktive jeg-fortæller Roger Byam (baseret på Peter Heywood), der som ung kadet kommer med på Bountys sejlads mod Tahiti, hvor han skal samle informationer om de indfødtes sprog.

Captain Bligh leaves London for Tahiti in charge of his crew on the Bounty. At sea he shows himself to be a brutal tyrant and cruel whilst enforcing discipline which includes flogging the men, cutting rations and over zealously working them too hard. On the return voyage, first mate Fletcher Christian, wonderfully played here by Orson Welles, leads the crew to mutiny and sets Bligh and his supporters adrift on a boat. What they did not count on is the Captain's return in this gripping tense drama.
