This collection of meditations on spiritual development was published in 1920. In the words of the author: "You are your own forerunner, and the towers you have builded are but the foundation of your giant-self. And that self too shall be a foundation."

Unlike their biblical precursors, Kahlil Gibran's parables espouse the importance of personal spiritual insight rather than moral rectitude. In Gibran's view, sin and virtue, mercy and justice, and sanity and madness are all sides of the one coin - one cannot exist without its opposite.

This universalist spiritual treatise is the best known work by the Lebanese-born poet and artist Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931). The central figure of the narrative is a fictional prophet, Al Mustafa, who is about to set off on a journey back to his homeland. His departure is delayed when he encounters a group of people who urgently seek his advice on a wide range of topics ranging from the mundane to the highest flights of spiritual introspection.

Khalil Gibran est un poète et artiste peintre libanais, il a séjourné en Europe et passé la majeure partie de sa vie aux États-Unis. Publié en 1923 et composé de vingt-six textes poétiques, son recueil "Le prophète" est devenu particulièrement populaire pendant les années 1960 dans le courant de la contre-culture et les mouvements New Age. Depuis qu'il a été publié, "Le prophète" n'a jamais été épuisé. Après avoir été traduit dans plus de vingt langues, il est devenu l'un des best-sellers des livres du XXe siècle aux États-Unis.

Kahlil Gibran (January 6, 1883 - April 10, 1931) was a Lebanese-American artist, poet, and writer whose inspiring works are still widely read and enjoyed throughout the world. The Forerunner, published in 1920, was written three years before Kahlil Gibran's best-known work, The Prophet, and is a book composed of his developing spiritual ideas of both poetry and prose.

Con il "Giardino", continuano le lezioni di vita del Profeta. In questo, come in altri scritti di Gibran, si parla di amore spirituale.
