Holmes und Watson werden Zeugen eines Rivalitätsstreits zwischen dem verheirateten Lebemann John Forfar und dem charismatischen Tony Elgin, der unsterblich in Forfars Gattin verliebt ist. Wenig später kommt der Ehemann zu Tode. Hat sein Ableben etwas mit der Rivalität zwischen den beiden Männern zu tun, oder war es Selbstmord? Holmes beginnt zu ermitteln.
