North Korea has one of the world's largest standing armies, capable of unleashing a massive arsenal of chemical and nuclear weapons. With an unstable government, led by the Kim dynasty under absolute dictator Kim Jong Un, North Korea more closely resembles an organized crime ring than a real nation-state. Millions live on the edge of starvation while Pyongyang's ruthless generals, crooked bureaucrats, and vicious secret police wage a covert war against each other to expand their rival fiefdoms.

Jerry Mitchell, skipper of the USS North Dakota, receives a message from Girish Samant, a submarine captain and former enemy of his, requesting a meeting. That meeting revives memories of a submarine he'd served on many years ago and a mission that proved far more dangerous and important than he had expected.

In a bid to dominate Asia and the western Pacific, China provokes a military crisis with the United States and then starts shooting down GPS satellites. The vessel is captained by his former shipmate and close friend Lenny Berg. Eager to investigate, Jerry convinces the navy to redirect one of his squadron’s boats to find out what happened. 

After years of exhaustive negotiations, North Korea's Kim Jong Il abruptly agrees to surrender all of his nuclear weapons. This sudden change in policy has the US suspicious, and the Team is dispatched to uncover the truth. Newest Team operative, the young and beautiful Thera Majed, goes undercover during the preliminary inspections of the entire Korean peninsula, on a mission so sensitive that she will be disavowed if discovered.

When the CIA is tipped off that one of its most wanted men is going to be in Bologna, Italy, Ferg and the First Team are tasked to apprehend him at any cost - but under no circumstances can Italian authorities be made aware. There is just one problem: No one has seen the man in over 10 years, and he is only known by a decades-old code-name: T-Rex. This assassin has been involved in the murder of at least a dozen prominent western leaders, and the grapevine reveals he's been called out of a long, silent hiding for one more major strike. Ferg and the Team arrive in Italy, where they recruit the help of a beautiful French Samaritan named Jane Foucoult.
