Einige Bücher sind schädlich, sogar gefährlich. Sie verdrehen einem den Kopf und geben den dunkelsten Seiten der menschlichen Seele Nahrung. Sie sollten verbannt oder vernichtet werden. Diese Geschichte handelt von solch einem Buch. Ich hoffe, es gibt noch genug von euch da draußen, die das hier lesen und mir glauben und sich zur Wehr setzen können - bevor es zu spät ist: Ein altertümlich wirkendes und zunächst harmlos erscheinendes Buch taucht in einer englischen Kleinstadt auf und ergreift Besitz von seinen Lesern.
