Rudolf Steiner zählt zu den einflussreichsten und zugleich eigenständigsten Denkern des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts. Als Philosoph, Pädagoge und Begründer der Anthroposophie verband er wissenschaftliches Denken mit spiritueller Erkenntnissuche und entwickelte daraus ein umfassendes Welt- und Menschenbild. Rudolf Steiner wurde 1861 im damaligen Österreich-Ungarn geboren. Nach einem naturwissenschaftlich geprägten Studium wandte er sich zunehmend philosophischen und später spirituellen Fragestellungen zu.

In Theosophie – Einführung in übersinnliche Welterkenntnis und Menschenbestimmung (1904) entwickelt Rudolf Steiner die Grundgedanken seiner spirituellen Weltanschauung: eine umfassende Menschenkunde, Reinkarnation, geistige Welten und übersinnliche Erkenntnis. Steiner beschreibt präzise die Gliederung des Menschen (Leib, Seele, Geist), das Wesen der Wiederverkörperung und die verschiedenen Bewusstseinsebenen jenseits des Materiellen. Das Werk gilt als Einstieg in die Anthroposophie und als Brücke zwischen Philosophie, Esoterik und moderner Spiritualität.

Knowledge of the Higher Worlds and Its Attainment or How to Know the Higher Worlds is Steiner’s most essential guide to the modern path of initiation he advocated throughout his life. It has been translated into many languages and has inspired hundreds of thousands around the world. With great clarity and warmth, Rudolf Steiner details the exercises and moral qualities to be cultivated on the path to a conscious experience of supersensible realities.

There slumber in every human being faculties by means of which he can acquire for himself a knowledge of higher worlds. Mystics, Gnostics, and Theosophists all speak of a world of soul and spirit which for them is just as real as the world we see with our physical eyes and touch with our physical hands.

The anthroposophy of Rudolf Steiner is not a theoretical system, but the results of research based on direct observation. Originally published in 1894, Rudolf Steiner's Die Philosophie der Freiheit was considered by Steiner to be his most enduring work above all others. This is the first English translation, which was done in 1916. Two years later, in 1918, he revised it to be more in line with The Theosophical Society's philosophy. In many ways, this edition is truer to his spirit then all other translations, including some of the modern ones.

Rudolf Steiner uses the history of Atlantis and Lemuria to discuss the esoteric evolution of man. He covers in more detail what is suggested in An Outline of Occult Science. There was a time when a continent called Atlantis still lay between Europe and America. This portion of the worlds surface was at one time land; this land now forms the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. Plato alluded to the last remaining remnant of that lost continent when he spoke of the Island of Poseidon.

When Rudolf Steiner gave these lectures 80 years ago, industrial farming was on the rise and organic methods were being replaced in the name of science, efficiency, and technology. With the widespread alarm over the quality of food in recent years, and the growth of the organic movement and its mainstream acceptance, perceptions are changing. The qualitative aspect of food is once again on the agenda, and in this context Rudolf Steiner's only course of lectures on agriculture is critical to the current debate.

Only he who understands life will be able to take his lessons from life itself. He will draw up no capricious schemes, for he knows that no other fundamental laws of life will prevail in the future than such as prevail in the present. Theosophy will therefore of necessity have respect for the existing state of things.
