The year is 2067. The city of Rosewater is chaotic, vibrant and full of life - some of it extraterrestrial. The charismatic mayor, Jack Jacques, has declared Rosewater a free state, independent to Nigeria. But the city's alien dome is dying. Government forces await its demise, ready to destroy Rosewater's independence before it has even begun. And in the city's quiet suburbs, a woman wakes with no memory of who she is - with memories belonging to something much older and much more alien.

Rosewater is a town on the edge. A community formed around the edges of a mysterious alien biodome, its residents comprise the hopeful, the hungry and the helpless - people eager for a glimpse inside the dome or a taste of its rumoured healing powers. Kaaro is a government agent with a criminal past. He has seen inside the biodome, and doesn't care to again - but when something begins killing off others like himself, Kaaro must defy his masters to search for an answer, facing his dark history and coming to a realisation about a horrifying future.

The colony ship Ragtime docks in the Lagos system, having travelled light years from home to bring 1,000 sleeping souls to safety among the stars. Some of the sleepers, however, will never wake - and a profound and sinister mystery unfolds aboard the gigantic vessel. Meet Weston Kogi, a London supermarket store detective. He returns home to his West African home country for his aunt's funeral. He sees his family, his ex-girlfriend Nana, his old school mate Church. Food is good, beer is plentiful and telling people he works as a homicide detective seems like harmless hyperbole, until he wakes up in hell. He is kidnapped and forced by two separate rebel factions to investigate the murder of a local hero, Papa Busi. The solution may tip a country on the brink into civil war.

Kleine Flunkerei, große Wirkung: Weston Kogi kommt nach langen Jahren in England zur Beerdigung seiner Tante nach Alcacia, Westafrika, zurück und macht den Fehler, sich ein bisschen aufzuspielen und die Leute glauben zu lassen, er sei in London ein Police Detective. Ist er aber nicht, nur Wachmann in einem Einkaufszentrum. Er wird von zwei rivalisierenden Rebellengruppen mehr oder weniger gezwungen, den Mord an einem Konsenspolitiker aufzuklären, bzw. den Mord jeweils der anderen Rebellengruppe anzuhängen.

Rosewater ist eine Stadt an der Grenze - an der Grenze zu der Biokuppel, die die außerirdischen Woodworm in Nigeria, unweit von Lagos, errichtet haben. Angesiedelt haben sich dort die Hoffnungsvollen, die Hungrigen und die Hilflosen -all diejenigen, die dabei sein wollen, wenn sich ein Mal im Jahr dieser Dom öffnet und jeden, der sich in dessen Umgebung befindet, von seinen Leiden heilt. 2066 - Kaaro besitzt die außergewöhnliche Fähigkeit, über die von den Aliens verbreitete, sporenartige Xenosphäre auf Gedanken, Gefühle und Erinnerungen anderer Menschen zuzugreifen.
