The world keeps trying to dim your light—but your inner wisdom was never meant to be silenced. As a Black woman, you’re both celebrated and judged, constantly asked to shrink so others feel comfortable. If you’re confident, you’re told you’re “too much.” If you’re assertive, you’re labeled “aggressive.” If you’re ambitious, you’re told to be “realistic.” But why should your joy and success be limited? We’re rising in a system designed to exclude us—yet still facing microaggressions, stereotypes, and the pressure to quiet our brilliance.

I found inspiration to pen another children’s book just this morning (November 20, 2023). This time, it draws from the lives of my father, Mr. Stifford John Snow, a farmer in Coker, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, and my Uncle-in-law, Mr. Vinrow Small, from St. Mary, Jamaica. And so, I have chosen to entitle it The Rasta Farmer. The purpose of writing this book is to pay homage to these two remarkable individuals my biological father, Mr. Stifford John Snow and my Uncle-in-law, Mr. Vinrow Small, who raised me from the age of twelve (12) to twenty-six (26) years old.

Heart Matters gets to the core of belonging with authentic truths laid out in gorgeous poetry and reflections that feel thoughtful, direct, and life-changing. This is poetry (and a poet) with purpose, to wake the listener one layer deeper than before, to shift awareness just enough that you feel a greater understanding, compassion, love, and tenderness fill you, and then move you closer toward your fellow human beings.
