When a deadly drug floods the streets of Staten Island, one of Felix’s patients falls victim. The only woman with the skills to design a drug like that had sworn she’d given up the life. The trail to find her runs through a New York where taverns vanish, shoe salesmen ignore what you want and give you what you need, nightclubs take only bullion and refrigerator doors open into other worlds.

Felix wakes up with a busted jaw, trapped in slime-dripping catacombs. He’s confronted by an insufferable blowhard, a little girl wearing a frilly princess dress (who comes bearing gifts) and a sadistic entrepreneur (who has a penchant for dumping automobiles in the Gowanus Canal). Cracking his most other-worldly case yet takes Felix on a whirlwind ride; from the bowels of New York City’s outer boroughs to the depraved heights of Manhattan society... and even has him dodging a possessed horde of scorpions in the Hamptons.
