Summary

A Romantic Hockey Comedy

Hockey. Drama. Battles on and off the ice.

Jack

I had my person I was supposed to grow old with, but he double broke my heart when he forced me to choose between marrying him or hockey. I chose hockey and if I’m choosing hockey, I’m doing it all the way and leaving love out of the equation. Sounds like a great plan until I show up to hockey practice and realize the guy I fell into bed with is actually my new coach.

Mercy

People depend on me. They need me. Worrying about myself has always come last. That’s what my life has been about since I was ten years old. That is until I decided to take what I wanted just once. Now, my heart’s decided Jack’s mine. I’ve fallen and I’ll never be the same. There’s just one problem. He’s on my hockey team and I can’t avoid him. I’m drawn to him like a moth to a flame. What do you do when you know in your heart someone’s yours, but you can’t have them?

This real Canadian adventure features possessive MCs, an age-gap romance, enemies-to-lovers vibes, and the sweetest gay hockey romance you’ll ever listen to.

It's a wild ride from start to finish with hilarious characters who do outrageous things. Oh, and of course, it contains the caretaking dynamic Mock (S. Legend and Canadian) is known best for. It’s a verified member of the Hot Pink Peaches Club.

I attempted to eyeball read this a while ago and ended up soft DNF'ing it because it wasn't hooking my attention felt cheesey and the vibes weren't vibing for me. This time I went for the audiobook and the vibes gave me what my mood reading ass was apparently looking for on my second attempt with this book as I had a really fun time listening to this. For me I think the perfomances of Zachary Johnson & Joe Arden made all the difference.

This story and characters are a bit OTT and you have to suspend beleif a bit but it is also sweet and endearing. I ADORED the Meyer clan (not the "parents") and their dynamics. Mercy has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders and has for a long time, he feels the pressure of that every day and taking this coaching opportunity is the first "selfish" thing he has done in a long time. Jack is still trying to recover both personally and professionally from his breakup a year ago, he has sworn off anything other than ONS and that is how these two meet, their night together unsettles them both as their desires align and their chemistry is through the roof, so Jack leaves in the middle of the night and they don't see each other again until Mercy is introducing himself to the team he is now coaching and the story goes from there.

This is very much an insta lust to love story, both MCs are obsessive, possessive and jealous and display that in their actions. I enjoyed watching their emotions catch up to their physical desire and them respectfully try to navigate what they both wanted and move forward together. Is the overall story realistic in how it plays out? No. Do I care? Also no. I had such a fun time listening to this, I loved how well the men in this world communicate with each other and were in touch with their own feelings. The main and side characters wore their hearts on their sleeves and weren't afraid to show affection both platonic and otherwise and that created a really cosy warm hug of a feeling whilst I listened.

The spice was delicious and there was plenty of it too. This was my first book by this author, I will definitely be picking up more. If you are looking for a MM Hockey Romance that features a bratty himbo MC with golden retriever energy paired with a super possessive stern older man, then this will deliver that. Zachary Johnson & Joe Arden knocked it out of the park with their performances and truly brought these characters to life. 🌶🌶🌶

Listening to this on audio was like reading this book for the first time again! Ahh I LOVED it!

The Myrea family - ahh I love them so much! I didn’t realise I missed the chaos of this family!

I cannot wait until the next audio is out! Reliving this series in audio is just awesome, and being with it all the feels like I was reading for the first time again! Happy, sad & excited. I loved it.
Now, I have never really watched a hockey games but S.Ledger writes her hockey scene like you are watching it real time, the highs and lows and anticipation of what is going to happen 👌🏼

And the narrators - Ahh Joe Arden & Zack .. just yes!

Joe & Zach were EXACTLY how I pictured Jack & Mercy. Their voices and the emotion & intensity they gave were so spot on for what I had in my mind it felt like this audio was made just for me.
Joe perfectly encapsulates Merc's depths with his voice. There were moments where I had shivers (the sensual whispering anyone?!) and I really felt every emotion along with them and then moments of brilliance - Joe voicing little Theo was the best! How this man goes from grown man to cute kid blows my mind and he did so seamlessly.
Zachary caught Jack exactly right. How he can be sort of flippant at times but always has such a deep well of emotion flowing underneath. To hear that represented in his voice was astounding. He really found the fun side of Jack, the teasing and the laughing but also the moments of deep feelings - every time he has to break up with Rhett again.
l actually found myself more emotionally connected to this book while listening to it. I shed a few tears for Rhett during their break up scene which I definitely don't remember doing when reading and hearing Mercy's dad break down just broke my heart in two.

I am new to S. Legend’s books, and I was not sure what to expect with an OTT hockey romantic comedy, but wow, consider me impressed, not only by her writing style and way with words, but how she makes it all work. This story grabs your attention right from the start and holds it captive the entire time, a story filled with fabulous characters that are relatable, and lots of humor, heart and heat. Jack Leslie’s ex, Rhett, makes it to the big league before going he proposes to Jack, but he also asks him to give up his hockey career and the reason they are now exes. A heartbroken Jack swore off men, but thanks to his besties, his teammates, he has a wonderful support system, and they keep him from doing something stupid, well mostly. Before starting the new season, he had his first, after breakup, one-night stand, and it was a steamy encounter. Mercy Meyers’ family situation is unique, and because of his irresponsible father’s actions, he became the caretaker of his ever-growing family. Mercy is a solid guy and is amazing with his younger siblings, trying to make ends meet was difficult, so when a coaching job comes his way his siblings encourage him to take the job, not only for the money, but for the love of the game. And it surprised him when he saw the guy he had a memorable one-night stand with on the team, the same man who left him before they were even a thing. There is never a dull moment in this delightfully entertaining story, an ex that does not give up, a family where there is no shortage of love and a brat who could use a spanking or two to keep him in line. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all played out, with the perfect balance of drama, angst, witty dialogue and humor, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance.

🎧📚🎧 Joe Arden and Zachary Johnson deliver a performance that takes this already amazing story to new heights, being exceptional in their roles, giving each a voice that is fitting, while humanizing them with their personality and emotions. Johnson was a natural as Jack and was convincing in the role, handling the witty dialogue with ease, but was just as amazing handling the serious moments. Arden was fantastic in Mercy’s role, Mercy, the one with so much on his plate, a man with so much love for his family and hockey too, going from a sweet father-like figure to a drill sergeant coach. Arden’s versatility as a voice artist truly shined in this book, performing the roles of the younger characters, giving each their own unique voice, handling the dialogue superbly. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to, and their enthralling performance rivets you to the story.
