About this listen

The Goonies meets Charade in the latest Accidental Alchemist Mystery.

A blackmailer obsessed with gold. A boyfriend who’s more than he seems. And a treasure hidden on the Oregon coast.

Alchemist Zoe Faust’s mentor Nicolas Flamel is back in her life, but catching up with him will have to wait. An elusive blackmailer has threatened to expose a dangerous alchemical secret. Zoe’s boyfriend is out of town protecting secrets of his own. So when rumors of a treasure map reach Zoe, she turns her back on what sounds like no more than a game.

Zoe’s mischievous living gargoyle best friend Dorian, who thinks of himself as a modern-day Poirot, is convinced the map is real - and that it’s the key to proving himself as valuable to Zoe as her human family. With the help of the neighborhood teenagers, Dorian sets out to find the treasure, risking more than he planned in the process. Rumors, treasures, and secrets intersect to unearth more than Zoe could have dreamed - and could leave her family changed forever.

Can Zoe stop the threat to the family unit she’s created?

This is a very nice book to listen to, I enjoy the speaker, she really brings the story to life. All in all exciting and never boring to listen to.

Exciting and nice

The writer gives the gargoyle a real personality. A believable character that the listener does care about. Unfortunately, this is not always true of the other characters in the story.

I enjoyed the story, even though it was a little predictable. A little less repetition would improve the flow. For example, there are only so many times that one can hear about Zoe’s white hair without screaming.

I was looking forward to this book and though I enjoyed it overall it feels like the weakest story and as some others have pointed out, there is a relatively high level of recapping the backstory, which is tiresome. I love the characters, particularly Dorian and I will be reading the next book because overall it is a really enjoyable series.

Love the series

The amount of repetition is unnecessary. Even if you for some unknown reason picked up book four in the season there is no reason to hear why Zoe’s hair is white more than once per book.

Some of the regurgitation is now making these characters that I have grown to love feel less dimensional or real than they are!

This story was fun, Julia was great again but the exact repetition of backstory is starting to grate.

I have a lot of love for this series… and
