Summary

A brilliant, hilarious one-off novel in the Skulduggery Pleasant universe, from number-one-bestselling author Derek Landy

This time, the bad guys take the stage.

Tanith Low, now possessed by a remnant, recruits a gang of villains – many of whom will be familiar from previous Skulduggery adventures – in order to track down and steal the four God-Killer level weapons that could hurt Darquesse when she eventually emerges. Also on the trail of the weapons is a secret group of Sanctuary sorcerers, and doing his best to keep up and keep Tanith alive is one Mister Ghastly Bespoke.

When the villains around her are lying and scheming and plotting, Tanith needs to stay two steps ahead of her teammates and her enemies. After all, she's got her own double-crosses to plan – and she’s a villain herself…

As a book, this isn't quite as good as the main Skulduggery Pleasant series. It's worth reading for continuity, and it's as well written as Derek Landy's other books but it's shorter and just doesn't have the plot and character development of the others.

I would, however, recommend that any Skulduggery Pleasant fan reads this in between books 7 and 8.

Notice that I say READ ,not listen. Whatever you do, do not waste an Audible credit on this as an audiobook. Tamaryn Payne's narration ranges from amateurish to awful and after the generally excellent standards of the three narrators we have had for the main books, it's just a complete disaster.

Her accents are awful, the speech patterns are unnatural, she has no comic timing and she pronounces every word like a 13 year old reading out loud in an English class. The only negative thing I have to say about Derek Landy's writing is that he sometimes goes overboard with the descriptions of the fight scenes. With other narrators this is sometimes mildly annoying, with Tamaryn Payne is becomes truly painful. There were times I fast forwarded because I just couldn't listen to any more.

Give your ears a rest on this one and sit down with the paperback or Kindle.

A huge let down for fans if Skulduggery audiobooks

Great story as always. But the narrator lets it down. She is great, but not suited for this story. She doesn’t bring out the humour and personality of the characters as well as she could.

Great story let down by the narration
