About this listen

From the desperation of golden crowns…

Casteel Da’Neer knows all too well that very few are as cunning or vicious as the Blood Queen, but no one, not even him, could’ve prepared for the staggering revelations. The magnitude of what the Blood Queen has done is almost unthinkable.

And born of mortal flesh…

Nothing will stop Poppy from freeing her King and destroying everything the Blood Crown stands for. With the strength of the Primal of Life’s guards behind her, and the support of the wolven, Poppy must convince the Atlantian generals to make war her way—because there can be no retreat this time. Not if she has any hope of building a future where both kingdoms can reside in peace.

A great primal power rises…

Together, Poppy and Casteel must embrace traditions old and new to safeguard those they hold dear—to protect those who cannot defend themselves. But war is only the beginning. Ancient primal powers have already stirred, revealing the horror of what began eons ago. To end what the Blood Queen has begun, Poppy might have to become what she has been prophesied to be—what she fears the most.

As the Harbinger of Death and Destruction.

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

On to book four and I’m still really struggling with the differing pronunciations in this version compared to the standard audiobook. I can’t say definitively which is correct as the pronunciation guide in the book doesn’t seem to be foolproof either, but it bothers me a lot that there are discrepancies between them either way. Sure it wouldn’t bother most people, but it tends to bring me out of the story a little bit every time.

I do really enjoy having different VA for all the characters, though the choices for a couple of the characters were a little jarring and not what I was expecting at all (Reaver and Malik), but I guess you can’t win them all.

I also noticed in a couple of places where the wrong character said a line, which I found to be a bit weird.

Overall, another fine graphic audio. I love the story enough to listen despite the few issues I have with the graphic audio, but I do think that I’ll mostly be sticking with the standard audiobook for most of my re-listens.

Another fine ga

The narration is completely off. Poppy is written as confident and composed, yet the narrator reads her with a constant tone of panic. It doesn’t fit the character at all. The other narrators aren’t much better. The added sound effects feel out of place and actually distract from the story. Overall, the performance made this audiobook much harder to get through than it should have been.
