A Harlowe & Fitch Historical Mystery

Lady Vivienne Harlowe doesn't fear much, and delves into life's experiences head on. But for years she's been plagued by the unsolved murders of her parents and the strange disappearance of other family members. Now, in the face of a new tragedy, she vows to follow every twist and turn until she's solved the dark deeds at Mablethorpe Castle.

A woman is found dead in an alley of the bad part of town called Rotten Row. She's thought to have been bludgeoned to death, but as Lady Vivienne Harlowe and Sheriff Zachariah Fitch investigate the crime, it is soon realized that she was poisoned.

When Sheriff Zachariah Fitch hears about a corpse found inside the wall of Maltby le Marsh Abbey, he wants nothing to do with the investigation since that is where his estranged sister resides as a nun. But with the local constable asking for his help, and Lady Vivienne accepting the case for them, he quickly finds himself not only working on a murder, but having to face his ghosts of the past involving his sister.

A grand tournament is about to begin, and the excitement grows as King Edward III joins the festivities at Mablethorpe Castle. Meanwhile, Lady Vivienne Harlowe's past comes back to haunt her, and she will do anything to find answers to the questions that have plagued her for the past seven years regarding her parents' unsolved murders. Meeting the king is nerve-wracking, but he is the only one who might be able to shed light on her nightmarish quandary.

Sheriff Zachariah Fitch doesn't believe in pirate stories like the ones his daughter's nursemaid, Nairnie spins so well. But his beliefs change quickly when Nairnie's ex-pirate husband, Bear, and his crew arrive at his door one night. After solving several murders with the help of his good friend (and love interest), Lady Vivienne Harlowe, Zachariah wants nothing more than time to unwind. However, when Bear suggests a day of high seas adventure aboard his ship, Vivienne accepts the invitation for all of them. Against the sheriff's will, of course.
