About this listen

When a gentlewoman is savagely murdered in her own bed, Lord Redmond and Inspector Haze must pick apart her seemingly blameless life to understand what drove her attacker to such frenzied rage—and how they managed to escape from a locked room in a house filled with people.

The closer Redmond and Haze get to the truth, the more secrets they uncover, and the greater the risk the perpetrator will strike again.

Will they solve the case before the killer claims another victim?

These books are very easy to listen to, never too graphic and just the right length.

Personally, I’m not liking the detective as much as I did in the earlier books, but the development of his character is really well written and I suppose it is to be expected for someone who was a simple constable in the English countryside, and now is a Scotland Yard inspector.

I’m even getting used to the awful reader, I suppose that my ears have now become accustomed to all her horrible voices, so for this book I’m giving 2 stars ;)

Interesting case for the American surgeon and the British detective.

This free series is quite good overall. This was a good episode in the series. The problem has been the dynastic between 2 key characters, Daniel and his wife, Sarah. They’re both unbearable.

Luckily in the final chapter of this book - AND HERE COMES THE SPOILER SO LOOK AWAY IF YOU DONT WANT TO SEE IT - Sarah commits suicide. I’m sure we’ll have to endure a lot of moping from Daniel now but it does get rid of one pointless character.

Good narrator.

I'm really enjoying this series of books. An engaging escapism with the characters whom Wendy superbly brings to life. The time period I find comforting in some ways, the descriptions of places, houses and life back then are informative along with the interesting medical terms and procedures. The loss in this book was a surprise.
I like the way each one ends, intriguing.

Loving this series
